Thinking of switching over to a natural deodorant but not sure if it’s for you? Well, look no further my friends. Natural deodorants are better than they’ve ever been before – they smell great, and actually work!
All through my teenage years I struggled to find a deodorant that worked for me. I tried literally every single type under the sun, from clinical protection right through to standard off the shelf.
I remember that no matter what deodorant I chose, I would always end up sweaty and with rashes under my armpits. I was miserable and felt like I would never find an answer.
It wasn’t until I was in my 20s that I had any luck finding a suitable deodorant. I read online about natural deodorants and I wanted to give them a try.
Once I did some research, and with some trial and error, I realised that natural deodorants could be the answer to my troubles
1. Natural deodorants actually work
For me, natural deodorants actually work a heck of a lot better than normal deodorants.
When I was using aluminium deodorants, I think I would sweat more because my skin was trying to get rid of the aluminium. With natural deodorant I still sweat but nowhere near as much and it doesn’t smell – even if I forget to wear deodorant.
I have to say though, the process of detoxing from commercial deodorants is actually a bit nasty. Be prepared to stick it out for 2-4 weeks before you know if it’s for you or not!
2. Natural deodorants benefit your health
Natural deodorants are aluminium free, which is much better for your health. Commercial deodorant brands use aluminium because it helps to block your pores and stop you from sweating.
I don’t know about you, but the idea that the aluminium blocks my pores makes me worried it might affect my health. I also wonder about the myriad of other chemicals in deodorants and whether they might be bad for my body.
Rather than putting toxins and chemicals into your body, natural deodorants fill your pits with only natural goodness. This means that your armpits will be less irritated and prone to redness and sweating!
3. Natural deodorants are better for the planet
As a general rule, most natural deodorants are far better for the environment. My favourite deodorant for example, comes in packaging that is 100% compostable and biodegradable.
My favourite deodorant is Ethique’s deodorant “Botanica” (I’ve linked it here to Nourished Life for your convenience – this is not sponsored, I just genuinely love it).
Some deodorants don’t even come in packaging at all! These are often called “naked” deodorants.
Funnily enough, some the chemicals in commercial deodorants are also bad for the environment. If we throw out a deodorant that is still half-filled, we are letting that seep back into the environment.
4. Natural deodorants are less expensive than you think
A lot of natural deodorants actually last longer than commercial deodorants. I find that even though they have a higher price point to buy, they can last 3-4 times longer than regular deodorant.
One bar of my deodorant literally lasts me about 5 months, and I apply it once every single day.
5. You know what the ingredients are
Natural deodorants are made only from natural ingredients – which means you know exactly what you’re putting on your body.
To be honest, I can’t even read the ingredients on most commercial deodorants, which makes me worry what on earth I am putting on my body.
Overall guys, I highly recommend switching over to a natural deodorant. While the process to switch over can actually be quite nasty – especially if you’re currently using a ‘strong’ or ‘clinical’ deodorant – I can 100% tell you that it is worth it.
It’s just BETTER! Better for the planet, for your body and for your worries.
Have you ever tried natural deodorant? What did you think of it?
